Aviation System Monitoring and Modeling (ASMM) is one of the sub-projects of the System Safety Technology (SST) Project under the Aviation Safety and Security Program. For over half a century the USC program has served as the gold standard of aviation safety management education, developing a reputation for excellence that is recognized nationally and internationally in the aviation community. It betrays many telltale signs during its building upstages that can be easily identified for timely intervention. When I talk about this evolution to using Safety Management Systems, what I want to emphasize is: this isnt about the FAA stepping back from its regulatory role. As we continue to face evolving threats, strengthening aviation security worldwide is critical in keeping the traveling public safe and secure. It gives the opportunity to come together so we can have spirited debates and find new and better ways to support the safest aviation system in the world.
